The American Buffalo, also known as a gold buffalo, is a 24-karat bullion coin first offered for sale by the United States Mint on June 2006. The American Gold Buffalo was the first .9999 pure gold coin struck by the United States Mint. Its inspiring design is based upon the original Buffalo Nickel, released for the first time by the US Mint in 1913.
