Koala 1 oz Silver 2009
History of the Australian silver coin
The koala is Australia's most cuddly marsupial and enjoys worldwide popularity as a national symbol. The Perth Mint has been issuing the 1 ounce silver koala with annually changing motifs since 2007. Elizabeth II is traditionally depicted on the value side. On the picture side there is always a koala in different situations and configurations (sometimes just one animal, sometimes several, sometimes a mother with her young, etc).
The investment coin became famous in particular for its 1 kilo denomination, which was launched in 2008. Between 2008 and 2015, the koala was also available in the denominations of 1/10 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1 ounce and 10 ounces of silver. A platinum edition of the Koala was also issued between 1988 and 2000.
