Krugerrand 1 oz Gold 2024
The Krugerrand is the most famous investment coin in the world. The unique gold coin was minted for the first time in 1967 and thus laid the foundation for the modern bullion market. With a fine weight of one ounce of gold (1 oz) you get with the Krugerrand not only a unique investment product, but also a piece of financial history. The reddish shimmer of the gold coin has the highest recognition value in the world. You will never have trouble selling a Krugerrand for a reasonable price. The Krugerrand is accepted practically without restriction worldwide.
Appearance and Motif of the Krugerrand
The 1 ounce Krugerrand is the official currency in South Africa. However, it does not have an official face value that is stamped directly on the coin. How much is a Krugerrand worth, you ask? The value of the coin corresponds to the current gold price. So the Krugerrand does not have a fixed face value. Only the word “rand” gives an indication of the official status of the Krugerrand - the rand is the official currency of South Africa. But as I said, the value of Krugerrand gold is determined by the gold price every day. The motif side of the Krugerrand in gold shows the South African politician Paul Kruger, who was President of the South African Republic between 1983 and 1900. The official name of the gold coin is actually "Krugerrand". In recent decades, however, the pronunciation Krugerrand has become common in German-speaking countries - probably because the name "Kruger" sounds untypical for German ears. The profile portrait of Paul Kruger on the motif side is surrounded by a bilingual lettering of the country's name - "Suid Afrika", as well as the English counterpart "South Africa". The motif was designed by Otto Schulz and has remained unchanged since the first edition. (Fig. Symbol image)
A springbok is depicted on the reverse of the coin. The springbok was designed by Coert Steynberg and is one of the national symbols of South Africa. The motif was already to be seen on the country's early 5 Schilling coins and dates back to 1947. The springbok seems to be galloping quickly across a steppe landscape for which the country is so typical. In addition to the springbok, the year, the name ("Krugerrand") and the fine weight ("Fyngoud 1 Oz Fine Gold") are stamped on the back. The motif is completed by a ring of small round dots, which can also be seen on the motif side of the Krugerrand. As is typical for course coins, the edge of the coin is fluted with a total of 180 notches. This distinguishes the course coins from the version as a polished plate. The polished Krugerrand has 220 notches.
