Manx Noble Platinum 1 ounce
The Manx Noble is probably the oldest platinum coin specifically for investment purposes and has been issued by the Pobjob Mint for the Isle of Man since 1983. The obverse of the 1 ounce coin shows a Viking ship with blowing sails, which is accompanied by four sea birds. The fine weight (1 oz) and the inscription "One Noble" can be read under the stylized waves. The latter refers to the fact that the rare platinum coins are legal tender on the Ilse of Man. The coins, however, have no face value (similar to Krugerrand or Libertad).
The motif is framed by a Viking knot that ends in the coat of arms of the Isle of Man, the so-called triskele. On the back is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Manx Noble in platinum is only issued irregularly (i.e. not annually). Depending on the year, an older or more recent portrait can be seen. Interestingly, the queen wears a crown - this is mostly missing on the other currency coins and banknotes of the independent island.
The Pobjob Mint is one of the few private mints and has minted medals and commemorative coins, but also currency coins for various British overseas territories, since 1965. Illustration icon image. Requests for specific years cannot be taken into account.
